Explanation
Procedure on how to remove the upper intake From a
Fuel Injected Fox Body Mustang.
First
Task
Disconnect all hose/lines that
hold the intake down.
These include .....
- A. Hose from intake to EGR (remove from
EGR) Not mentioned in the picture b/c running without emissions
- B. Oil fill spout to Throttle body
(remove from intake)
- C. Coolant lines running from metal line
above lower intake that go to the heater core

D.
- You will need to disconnect the hose that runs from the back of the upper
intake to the PCV valve.
- The first picture shows where the hose to the PCV valve originates. You do
not need to remove
the hose shown in the first picture because it will not stop you from removing
the intake.
- The hose is fairly short and should pop right off. Due to a difficult
camera angle a photo could
not be obtained. If you try to remove the intake, you will see where the hose
prohibits the
intake from being lifted
- The Second pictures shows a diagram of how hoses connect to the lower
intake that a camera could not
show you.
- One hose comes from your emissions portion (Shown in Red) and one hose
goes to your PCV
valve (Shown In White). You will notice a break in the white drawing because
on the intake
there is a metal piece that joins the two hoses.

Second Task
Throttle Body Connections Need To Be Disconnected...
The Throttle cable coming from your Foot Pedal must be
disconnected from the throttle body to
Allow the Intake To Be Raised. The IAC Valve harness and TPS harness must also
be unplugged.
A. This is
performed by loosening two bolts from the side of the throttle body as shown in
the First Picture.
B. Use a screw
driver to gently pry the cable out of the ball socket. It should take relatively
no effort as shown in
second picture.

C. After you remove the bolts and
release the cable from the ball, move the throttle cable to the
side
so it will not get in the way.
D.
It is now safe to unplug the harness
from your Idle Air Control Valve (pictured)
After doing this about 5 times you will
be able to do this in your sleep.
3. Disconnect Intake Hose that go to
throttle body and Air Cleaner
A. This is done by using a regular flat
screw driver to loosen the clamps and pull off.
Unbolting the Beast.....
A. Bolts are Located here
- 1. Two Bolts On the Back Side of
the Upper Intake. There is a ground wire that you
need to be aware of later during reassembly.
- 2. Two Bolts under the 5.0
HO Cover in the middle of the Upper Intake
- 3. Two Bolts In front of the Upper
intake, Behind the Distributor Cap
To Remove the 5.0 HO Cover, You will
need a Torx screw driver.
- 1.

- 3.

Check, Recheck, And Check Again
Use This Time To Check for Any Hoses or Connections that will prohibit the
intake from lifting away.
